OUR STORY 

Mr. August Zajc from Smlednik has saved up enough money, with his hard work, to buy a lot of land. Including the place where the Hotel Baron is standing now, where he built a new hotel according to his wishes.  When he was buying land, the locals wondered and admired him, and said he must be a baron.

Why? Because the Barons are a very important part of history of Smlednik. A long time ago- in the 12th century a knight, Ulrih Of Smlednik built a castle on the hill above the place where Hotel Baron is standing now. He was subordinate to the Counts of the Andes, one of the most respectable Bavarian royal families. After a turbulent history and several owners, the castle was bought by the Lazarini baron family in 1795.

Today all that is left of the castle are the walls and and the ruins of the main castle, called Stari Grad. The Lazarini barons built the Lazarini mansion, and their neighbour is Mr. Avgust Zajc, the owner of the hotel. The village was full of barons, that’s why our hotel is named Hotel Baron.
